Answer to what is Justice- Righting a wrong
Write a 4-5 page paper that answers the following question:
Using the novel 1984 as your foundation answer What is Justice?
You will use other materials from the course as well, such as Plato, Gilgamesh, Antigone, etc, but base the argument (your thesis) on 1984 (George Owell).
The key, as you learned from Paper 2, is in the thesis. DO NOT claim that the Question is relative to the individual UNLESS you can provide a convincing argument based upon reason and evidence that it is so. Also, do not be vague, such as in “to be human is to have relationships” or the like. All living creatures have relationships, mutual dependencies, etc. What is it specifically that makes humans human or truth truth, etc.?
Use 1984 as your vantage point to look back into the past (Plato, Augustine, etc.) AND to analyze the present.
How is Winston from 1984 similar to Antigone or the prisoner in Plato’s cave?
How is he different? How is Winston’s world similar to the one in which we find ourselves living today?
How is it different? Use these comparisons and contrasts to explore the Big Question you have chosen.
Again, the key is in the thesis. Be specific! Use specific evidence to support it. Use reason!
The paper will be double-spaced, one-inch margins, 12-pt font, black typeface.
