Activating the ‘Will’ to Change
Description
Organizations in the International Aid Sector have to a certain extent heard the calling placed by impact of the BLM movementon the sector to ‘to undertake the dismantling of its neocolonialistic foundation, structure, and approaches and build back better.’
Organizations have reflected on and is aware of the ‘Why’ this is needed, understands the potential impact of no action. It also understands the moral imperative behind this.
However it now needs to activate the will to change, the will to action, to move from awareness to doing.
The Journey from Self Reflection to Activation of the Will takes a number of steps
1: No self reflection
2: Ability to self-reflection but no self-awareness/consciousness (i.e. understanding the why)
3: Self-awareness and understanding impact on oneself and understanding impact on others ; but
but no availability of the will/individual power to initiate a change (we still getting caught/hooked/trapped)
4: Self awareness and will (from little to significant amount) available to activate change. Specific and explicit actions that helps us relearn, change mindsets and start to change – baby steps to full change
Will organizations now step 4. What activates will to change, what usurps it? Understanding it is a journey, when we fall ensuring we get back up
