Essay question: “The Circumcision debate, the reasoning in Lautsi v. Italy and in R. (on the application of Johns) v Derby City Council all demonstrate that the liberal state and the language of human rights are hostile towards identity based on religion. The right to freedom of religion merely allows private individuals to practice religion, but not to maintain identity based on religion.” Discuss.
