Description
Building Information Modelling
This is an individual assignment. The submission comprises two elements:
• A slide presentation, supported by
• A 10-minute video presentation, to accompany your slides.
Your presentation may be pre-recorded or live and your justification should be presented in slide format, such as PowerPoint. It should be equivalent to 2500 words and be well-structured, comprising sections such as an introduction, main body, conclusion, references, bibliography and appendices.
You are encouraged to make use of images, drawings and other research material in support of your assignment. Any material that is derived from other sources must be appropriately referenced using a standard form of citation, such as Harvard referencing. You may need to include an appendix of relevant literature which should be carefully reviewed to verify suitability and accuracy.
The scenario –
In this assignment, assume that the company you currently work for rely on ‘traditional’ methods of project design. They are considering the move to a BIM-enabled design process and need to understand the implications in terms of:
• Collaborative working across design, construction and facilities management teams,
•Expanding their staff and training to manage the transition to and ongoing running of BIM-enabled
projects
• creating a BIM Execution Plan which will be used for all future projects.
Your response should include the following information:
• An explanation of the differences between a traditional and BIM-enabled processes and a discussion of collaborative working.
• An explanation and evaluation of information created and roles required.
• An analysis of how BIM informs project outcomes and how information is used.
• An assessment of how a BIM-enabled process can result in positive outcomes.
Tutor’s commentary –
Achieve the pass tasks, you need to explore the difference between BIM and ‘traditional’ processes, the roles required to aid BIM project development at all stages, how to support BIM with collaborative working and creating, managing and using information.
Achieve the merit tasks, you need to analyse BIM in terms of use and project outcomes and evaluate the roles required to successfully deliver a BIM project.
Achieve the distinction task, you need to assess the positive outcomes that can result from a BIM-enabled process.
