Experience and determination have inspired my decision to become a physician. This exposed me to a fast-paced world, putting in mind a range of objectives that, when placed well, add up to the successful lane of reaching my goals. Several aims have been achieved, but others have not, such as providing more medical services in undeserved communities, becoming a psychiatrist, and resolving poor global health. Nevertheless, my goals shape and balance the scope of my application with a major focus on service delivery.
Being in the rural areas of East Texas revealed a more reduced standard of living. In my hometown, there were several specialties, but no more than one of the same practice. For example, as I shadowed the only pathologist, Dr. Ogburn, he was occasionally overworked and spent long hours in his office. Nevertheless, Dr. Ogburn did have several technicians who preserved the dissected tissue and prepared slides to spend all his time interpreting them. This experience provided a better understanding of the need for more doctors in rural areas, and I will strive to bring hope to my community.
Becoming a psychiatrist is an essential part of my career objective. This objective was pushed by several actors, with one central actor being my mother. Given her mental health history, recognized that mental health issues might arise out of nowhere, such as a stressful situation, terrifying delusions, or even suicidal thoughts. However, there may be somewhat lengthy problems, such as persistent anxiety, hopelessness, or functional issues that render everyday existence. These impressions compelled me to pursue a career in mental health, including drug abuse disorders. It allows me to evaluate both the emotional and physical dimensions of mental health issues.
My career path was also propelled through the service in Africa. While in Kenya, there was a crucial number of vulnerable populations that demanded our help. Assisting in the hospital and other regions in Africa showed me the vital influence physicians and other medical staff had on these communities. It is crucial to explore and deliver aid outside of our comfort zone and implement humanity’s fundamental nature. Knowing how health can be impacted by poverty worldwide, significant adjustments of the undeserved communities are necessary. Several healthcare agencies are working to solve these problems by sending medical professionals to undeserved areas, and I aim to fall into such categories.
