Description
Group Wiki California Standards Training
Course Learning Objectives:
2. Apply critical thinking skills in ethical decision-making to a range of social work situations.
4. Apply relevant laws and regulations to contemporary social work problems.
6. Explain to clients the potential outcomes of a human rights or social justice-related law or regulation.
Purpose:
This exercise is to help you understand how states may differ in their ethical practices due to state law, unique cultural differences within a state, and licensing interpretation by professional mental health organizations. California has high standards for licensure. The training you will develop to turn in with your group will educate future social workers taking the licensing exam about what they need to know to pass the ethics portion. You will have the same groups as you had for the week two Code of Ethics Match wiki assignment.
Directions:
Step one: Identify the California-specific ethical standards for the California Social Work Ethics Licensure exam and read about each area.
Step two: Develop training for future social workers addressing the areas below which are specific to California. The training must include each of the following for each of the areas listed below:
1. An educational component with at least three resources (see below for examples of educational components)
2. Example of the standard/law from media or personal experience, the example should be explicit in supporting the need for the standard
3. Assignment to assess understanding of the topic. See template example below.
Subpoenas
Requirements for child abuse reporting
Requirements for elder abuse reporting
Educational components should include a variety of learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.), since everyone learns in a different manner. Each area should have enough resources from the internet to create a robust learning experience, but if you feel the need to create added information for clarity you are welcome to do this. If you use other resources, a paragraph should identify what the resource will provide the learner in the learning experience. Types of resources should include:
Slide Presentations like Powerpoint, Google Slides, Prezi, Piktochart, etc.
Video
Podcast
Weblinks (recommended websites to be used as resources)
Text
Self-assessments: Crossword puzzles, quizzes (Moodle), etc.
Flip Grid
Step three: Identify the elements the training will address, how the assignment will be organized, and which group members are responsible for which areas and their examples. Create specifics about word count, type of information needed, example length, and timelines for each step of the process.
