How is the case handled at a juvenile drug court? Who are eligible? Can the substance you chose in D handle in a drug court? What kind of disposition/treatment is given to juveniles?

Description

In this paper, you will explore why young people engage in substance use.

Your paper must include the following:

A.Introduction/Conclusion of this paper.

B. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,( what ishigh-risksubstance use? Also, what kind of substance is included?

C. Address a various types of substance use introduced in this material“Juvenile Substance Use”by Schmalleger and Marcum.Summarize all sections of this material and describe each type of drug briefly.

D.Choose one type of substance/drugusedby juveniles which concerns youmost and explain why you worry about that particular substance usecompared to other types of substance.

E.Trace the history of substance useyou chose above(Section D). When did the particular substance use start to become prevalent among juveniles? When did our society start to show its concern over this substance? What drew societal attention to this substance used among juveniles? In other words, how do we know this type of substance use among juveniles has become a societal interest to combat?

F. Find a real-world case (except for the case introduction in this uploaded material) regarding the substance you worry about most (the one you chose in Section D) and describe what happened including the incident, date, juvenile offender(s), damages caused, court processing, and consequences to the offender.

G.What mightbe some negative consequences of the particular substance use(Section D)?Remember, negative consequences are not limited to legal consequences. Be sure to approach this from multiple angles, identify at least three consequences,

H. How is the case handled at a juvenile drug court? Who are eligible? Can the substance you chose in D handle in a drug court? What kind of disposition/treatment is given to juveniles? Do we have a juvenile drug court in Oregon? If so, where and how many drug courts are there in Oregon?

I. Now, let’s focus on prevention. How can we prevent this “particular type”of substance useamong juveniles? Be sure to make a clear connection between your prevention strategy for juvenile substance use and your research (Section D-H).

J. In today’s society, substanceuseis prevalent among adults. However, drugs are still illegal to juveniles. We should prevent them from becoming a drug user/addicteven though possession of small amounts of hard drugs is decriminalized in Oregon. Consider two things:

1) What is substance/drugaddiction?Any difference from drug use?Define using one scholarly source (e.g. a book, peer-reviewed journal article, or government website: .gov only) and use proper in-text citation.

2) As an Oregonian, do you think it is OK for juveniles to use drugs experimentally since once they reach 21, it will be decriminalized? Or should we practice “zero-tolerance”against juvenile drug use considering a potential pathway to addiction? Discuss.
