Before submitting your Assessment, carefully review the rubric. This is the same rubric the SME will use to evaluate your submission and it provides detailed criteria describing how to achieve or master the Competency. Many students find that understanding the requirements of the Assessment and the rubric criteria help them direct their focus and use their time most productively.
All submissions must follow the conventions of scholarly writing. Properly formatted APA citations and references must be provided where appropriate. Submissions that do not meet these expectations will be returned without scoring.

Analyzing Health Disparities in the Community
You are part of a task force that is preparing a grant application aimed at improving the health of the people in your community. The grant does not specify a particular focus, so your task force must begin by determining which health disparities exist in your community and on which one to focus. Each task force member is preparing a report to present to the remaining members.
To prepare for this Assessment:
Review the definition of culture and the articles related to how culture impacts treatment in healthcare.

Section 1: What is Culture?
Define culture as you observe it in your community. (Reminder: culture is not just about race and ethnicity).
Section 2: Health Disparities
How does culture affect health disparities?
Choose a specific health disparity in your community that you would like to learn more about. The following are a few websites that provide a wealth of data regarding specific populations and the Healthy People 2020 assigned focus area:

How does the health disparity affect the health of the population in your community? What are 2 to 3 healthy people objectives that address your chosen health disparity?
Section 3: Health Equity
Recommend at least 2 cultural strategies that would be helpful to utilize to strive towards health equity in your community.
Be sure to support your work with specific in-text citations from the resources provided and additional scholarly sources, as appropriate. Refer to the Essential Guide to APA Style for Walden Students to ensure that your in-text citations and reference list are correct.
Prepare a 2-3 page, typed, 12-point font, double-spaced, APA style paper, including a reference and a title page.
Your references should be recent research articles or book chapters, from professional and reliable sources. Your references must be no more than 5 years old.
All your sources must be referenced APA style (author, year, title, journal, volume, pages). For example: Taylor, S. E., Klein, L.C., Lewis, B. P. Gruenwald, T. L., Gurung, R. A. R., & Updegraff, J.
