PURPOSE
Information systems are tools that offer useful application to promote safety and quality within clinical environments, and to assure compliance with established best practices, regulatory and accreditation guidelines. Application of technology in a manner that facilitates patient care and organizational outcomes is essential to building and sustaining a culture of excellence within the clinical environment. The purpose of this assignment is to explore how technology and information systems can be used to promote patient safety, quality of care, and efficient delivery of care in the clinical healthcare environment. In addition, ethical and legal considerations surrounding technology and information systems will be examined, along with implications for advanced nursing practice.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
Identify a concern regarding safety, quality, or the efficient delivery of care within the clinical setting. Consider the impact of technology and information systems on the selected area of concern. Create a 2 – 4-page paper, using a minimum of 4 peer-reviewed scholarly sources, current within 5 years, to support your work. See rubric for specific, required content criteria within each section of the paper:
1. Provide an introduction to the paper.
2. Identify and describe one area of concern in the clinical healthcare environment. Describe the impact of the issue on patient safety, quality of care, and/or efficient delivery of care. Explain the accreditation or regulatory guidelines regarding the issue or area of concern.
3. Using technology and/or information systems, propose one solution to address the area of concern. Explain how the proposed solution will integrate technology and/or information systems to address or resolve the concern.
Describe how proposed solution will facilitate patient safety, quality of care, and/or efficient delivery of care.
4. Identify one decision-making model that may facilitate implementation of the proposed solution, and provide rationale for its use. Discuss the legal and ethical considerations regarding the proposed solution, and implications for advanced nursing practice.
5. Provide a conclusion to the paper.

4. Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure are followed and consistent with formal, scholarly writing as noted in the APA Manual (current edition).
5. No more than one short direct quote (15 words or less) may be used in this assignment.
6. First person should not be used within this assignment.
