Assessment guidance
Modules NPAD/NPMH/NPCH6000 are undertaken by mental health students respectively. The module consists of 4 weeks focusing on coordinating long term conditions in partnership and two weeks on field specific topics. (Mental Health = Advancing Recovery Focus)
The assessment for the field specific module content accounts for 25% of the total module marks. You will write an annotated bibliography, including 3 references on one topic (from a choice of 3 topics) and submit a supporting document of no more than 1000 words, that identifies the connections, mind mapping, between the concepts identified and shows your critical analysis of field specific themes considered in weeks 5 and 6 of the module.
Annotated bibliography:
You are required to prepare and submit an annotated bibliography.
You will submit an annotated bibliography of three key literature sources (pieces of evidence) these could include research papers, policy and guidance documents, that you will draw on in your supporting document. Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills, including the ability to make critical points succinctly and concisely. To achieve this you should:
• Conduct a search for relevant literature sources and choose three that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. You will need to demonstrate breadth of knowledge as well as depth, and you should try to ensure that the literature chosen reflects different perspectives.
• Cite each of these books, papers, or documents using the referencing style Cite them Right.
• Write a concise annotation that summarizes the central theme and scope of each source of literature. This should take the form of one or two sentences that explain how the literature source informs your understanding of the topic and provides critical evaluation of the claims made.
There is no word count for this annotated bibliography, but we would expect it to be contained on 1 side of A4 with the text being in a legible font size.
Supporting document:
You will also submit a supporting document appended to your annotated bibliography. This document will be of no more than 1000 words. The purpose of this document is to identify the connections, mind mapping, between the concepts identified and demonstrate critical analysis.
This document should:
• Explore the reasoning behind the selection of literature sources for the annotated bibliography
• Critically appraise the evidence with a focus on the perspective/argument/connections you are proposing
• Provide insightful nuanced analysis and justify your inferences
• Consider and articulate the relationships between the chosen literature sources
• Identify any themes, competing perspectives, and new insights the literature sources generate and any gaps in research
• Explain how your practice will change in light of your new insight
In order to achieve depth and breadth of consideration of the issues, it is expected that you will read and refer to more than three sources of knowledge in the supporting document. Therefore, you will submit a reference list of all sources used to inform your thinking, following the referencing guidelines Cite them Right. The citations used in the annotated bibliography will also need to be included in your reference list.
