Scenario:
An adult female patient who is 42-years-old was diagnosed with bipolar Idisorder at the age of 25.
For many years she has been stabilised on the combination of lithium 500 mg twice daily and sodium valproate 1000 mg twice daily. She comes into your pharmacy today and is looking distressed.
She has heard that lithium causes cancer so she wants to stop using it immediately.
