1 What this Module is About

1.1 Introduction from the Module Leader

Welcome to the Human Growth and Development Module and your second term at university. The module equips students with knowledge concerning physical, psychological and psychosocial development across the human life course, in a political, cultural, economic and environmental context.

1.2 Module Aims

The aim of the module is to explore:
1. How human beings grow and change over their lives – emotionally, psychologically and intellectually; and

2. How social behaviour and experience can be understood through psychological and psychosocial theories, to the benefit of the practice of social and community practitioners, relational practitioners, and youth workers.

1.3 Module Learning Outcomes

LO1 Consider a selection of psychological approaches to understanding development across the lifecycle.

LO2 Identify key research used in understanding human growth and behaviour and its limitations.

LO3 Consider cultural and gendered perspectives in human growth and development.

LO4 Apply relevant psychological theory to explain atypical development and behaviour.
