Resit Assessment 3: Understanding Qualitative and Quantitative Management Research This exercise is worth 70% of the total marks available for this module. There are two essay- based questions and you must answer both questions. Attempt ALL questions. Each question is worth 50 marks and should be a 1,000 words each. answer each question on a separate sheet of paper.

Your answer should take the form of a short essay with a brief introduction, a longer main discussion section and a very brief conclusion. For each question, you are expected to cite and reference the core textbook for the module (or a similar textbook).

Higher marks will be awarded to students who cite and reference any additional and timely references in their essays. Please present your responses to each question in the same order as presented in the assessment instructions (i.e. present your answer to Question 1 before Question 2).

1. In 1,000 words, respond to the following question:

Imagine that you have been awarded a research grant for the following topic: The impact of organisational commitment and work engagement on turnover intentions. You have 100 responses from employees using self-report close-ended measures of organisational commitment, work engagement and turnover intentions.

You are now at the stage where you need to analyse the data and write up a brief report of your findings. Please include a discussion of the following in your brief report: any relevant literature on the proposed topic, research methods, including ethical issues involved in the research, data analysis procedures (what statistical test should be computed), hypothetical findings (what do you expect to find and how would you report the statistical results) and potential implications of the findings.

You must also provide sufficient justification for your research methods and data analysis procedures.

2. In 1,000 words, respond to the following question:

Imagine you have been asked to undertake a qualitative research study about gender inequalities in an organisation of your own choice. First, you need to explain the pros and cons of qualitative research methodology and methods.

Secondly, You need to discuss the stages in designing the research study and the types of qualitative methods that could be used and how they might help us understand the effects of inequalities in the organisation you have selected.

Thirdly, explain how you would design and undertake good quality interviews and identify the type of questions you could ask in the interview that fit with this topic and your chosen organisation. Finally summarise how the organisation could benefit from such a research study
