In “Oh Captain, My Captain” Walt Whitman creates an elegy poem for the American nation coming to terms with the reality of Civil War.
Discuss the historical analysis of the poem and his admiration of Abraham Lincoln. How does Whitman demonstrate his support for Lincoln, his own political beliefs, and the emotional state of America at the end of the Civil War?
