The department has seen an increase in the need for mental health training to decrease unfavorable outcomes during the arrest of a person with an untreated mental illness.
Based on agency information a person with an untreated mental illness is 16 times more likely to be killed when police officers are involved.
Using the Best Practice Methodology, examine 2 police departments in different counties who have faced the same problem, but have implemented policies that provide better outcomes. The results will provide recommendations for the need of mental health training within the Browacgord County Sheriff Police Department.
