This assignment asks you to propose (recommend) a feasible intervention for a public health problem in your own country. (You can choose to focus on a particular region).
The recommended intervention needs to be based on your critical analysis of the determinants of the problem for your target population, using surveillance data and critically reviewed evidence about risk and protective factors.
The discussion should provide a critical assessment of how feasible the implementation of this intervention would be for your selected target population.

INTRODUCTION
Tell the reader what the assignment is about.
Specify: the public health problem you will focus on, and the area of the country (if appropriate).
Set the scene: Using best quality evidence, tell the reader about your country’s current public health problems and priorities, and how your country is currently directly and indirectly intervening to promote public health in the context of national and global health goals. Define terms, & reference all sources.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE TARGET PROBLEM (800 Words)
Detail the best quality evidence for the trends in incidence and prevalence.
Identify the determinants of the target problem (consider Rainbow model).
Identify how differences in risk and protective factors contribute to inequalities and/or inequities on the gradient of health, which group(s) are most vulnerable, and justify why you are selecting your target group.
Be specific about the disparities they experience.
Discuss the complex systems within which the problem exists.
CURRENT INTERVENTIONS
Identify and critically describe the interventions your country has implemented to address the target problem:
Population level Policies; Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary level interventions (as appropriate).
Provide evidence for the effectiveness / lack of effectiveness of these direct and/or indirect actions for the population and for your target group.
Explain the implementation issues – why does the problem persist, despite the interventions?
RECOMMENDATIONS AND DISCUSSION
Identify and discuss the design and the effectiveness of at least one intervention that has been successfully used in other contexts to address your target problem – be clear about how and why they worked, and how they might fit to your context – highlight whether they have been effective or are untested for populations who are similar to your target group.
Recommend an intervention to address your specific public health problem for your target group.
Specify how your proposed intervention might work in theory i.e. the mechanisms of change (e.g. how it might impact your target group’s capabilities, opportunities, and motivations (COM-B), or another behaviour change theory) to resolve the problem.
Provide a critical assessment of how feasible the implementation of this intervention would be for your selected target population, including settings, key professionals, roles, collaborations, and what, if any, service and policy level changes would be required.
Explain how it should be evaluated. Ensure this fits with the intervention level and expected mechanisms of change.
Acknowledge the potential ethical issues.
CONCLUSION
Identify the key messages that your reader should learn from your assignment.
Do not simply repeat yourself.
Illustrate what you have learned about implementing evidence and theory based public health and how you are achieving all the learning outcomes.
