Lab Practical II
The Problem
Many “futurists” think and feel that the only way mankind can survive the future on Earth is to colonize other planets. With the present technology for space travel, we are somewhat limited. Movies like Star Trek, Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy and many other sci-fi ones make us think it’s just a matter of time that we will figure out how to move faster than the speed of light, which is 186,000 miles per second! Also, there is conquering a power source that is almost inexhaustible. So, to start, NASA aims to have humans on Mars by the 2030’s. The people making the long space journey will experience health risks they have never faced before. And Mars is the closest and probably the only option within our Solar System!!
Using your knowledge of Biology you’ve obtained this semester, research and then discuss the problems the human body will face during space travel and the various ways we can overcome them.
Also, discuss the problems of “colonizing” or living on Mars and possible solutions for long term survival (even if the technology needs to be invented). Be creative!!
There is no wrong or perfect answer……and the length of this project is based upon: did you answer the problem to the best of your ability!
