Audit the Auditors Youtube Channel
AtA: https://www.youtube.com/c/AuditTheAudit/videos
Understanding the above, the goal of this project is for you to review a single police-citizen encounter video from a youtube channel called “Audit the Auditors” (or hereby called “AtA” and then create a presentation on the video linking at least three issues found in the video to issues covered during the semester. The AtA channel is dedicated to examining police-citizen encounters caught on video. In examining the encounter AtA identifies and discusses relevant state and federal laws and case law, and other pertinent legal or criminological concepts relevant to the specific encounter, while also offering criticism and/or praise of involved parties. At the end of each video, AtA grades each relevant individual in the encounter, both police and the civilian or civilians on a scale from A to F.
Directions
Select one of the videos from AtA. Note that more recent videos from 2020 and 2021 employ a voice actor, which in my opinion vastly improves the quality of these videos. But you are free to select whatever one of them you want to.
Using PowerPoint or Microsoft Word, create a presentation that does the following:
Title Page (1 slide): Your Name/Class Info
Introduction (2 – 3 slides): This should be a synopsis of the entire video that identifies the police department and/or officers involved, the name of the civilians, location (city/state). Part II of your introduction should be detailed synopsis of events that outlines how the interaction came to be and what happened and what were the results (for instance, the person was stopped for speeding, officer tried to get information that person wasn’t required to give, officer made an arrest).
Relevant Laws & Concepts (2 – 3 slides): Detail relevant laws and/or concepts identified by AtA (you should find the laws online and provide a link to them in the works cited). Next, provide brief explanations after each one about how they relate to the video. Note that you don’t have to include the entire text of the law but only its relevant section.
Concepts: Identify three relevant concepts studied this semester that you can apply to the interaction. For example, police use of force or pre-textual stops. Explain in some detail why they are relevant. Make the connection to the incident.
Summarization of positive and negative issues within the incident: You can make a list for officers and civilians alike.
Conclusion: On a scale of “A to F” like AtA, assign a grade to both the police and to the civilians. If yours differs from AtA, mention why.
