Assignment 2 (55%): Essay
The first assignment tasks comprise the ‘Argumentative Essay and Preparation’ assessment;
these are designed to assess your ability to actively and critically read, and understand, academic
literature; critically analyse scholarly research and texts; and prepare an argumentative essay at a
first-year undergraduate level – demonstrating academic essay structures appropriate to the
assigned task (in this case, an argumentative essay).
Writing an academic essay is an essential skill for success at university. This assignment will
provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to construct an argumentative essay.
This requires you to develop a thesis statement in response to an essay question that can then be
argued using logic and supporting evidence drawn from the available academic literature.
Your essay will be in response to one of the three questions provided in this Unit Plan.
