For the patient beliefs essayusing the following structure:
Pick an area from the module (adherence)
• Search the literature to see how this has been studied (start from my textbook then span out)
• Identify the key theory (s)
• Identify research focusing on the role of pt beliefs in this area.
• Then tell a story around the theory and research evidence to show the extent to which patients beliefs do impact on adherence
So for the essay:
• Intro para setting the scene for the essay and outlining focus and key argument
• Describe the key theoretical frameworks used
• Group the research into a pattern (eg. by method / by sample / by theory) rather than just listing all the studies
• Then describe the studies using this pattern
• Critique the research / theories
• Draw a conclusion
For the marking criteria:
70+ – great theory / great evidence / good analysis
60+ – good theory / good evidence / basic analysis
