2. Watch the following video interview with Deaf scholar Ben Bahan who defines “audism”, “Deaf gain”, and “Deafhood”. link below.
3. Reflect on the readings and the interview with Ben Bahan. In your written reflection should address the following:
(a) Briefly summarize your reaction to the article and video and describe your prior knowledge of or experience with audism.
(b) List 1-2 examples of how SLPs and audiologists might involuntarily contribute to audism.
(c) Describe the consequences of audism for Deaf or hard of hearing people.
(d) Discuss ways in which communication disorders professionals (e.g., SLPs and Audiologists) work to combat audism in clinical practice.
