Polarization Assignment
1. What is polarization? How is it produced? What are some of its uses? Review some applications of polarization, and particularly in Polaroid sunglasses.
2. For your second post you will perform a small experiment to check if your sunglasses are polarized and analyze the angles the intensity of light changes. Find a reflective glass surface (your cell phone’s display set to higher brightness can be used for the “experiment”). Take your sunglasses and rotate them slowly over the display of your cell phone while holding it still and look at the display through your sunglasses. Explain your observations. What is the difference in angle from when you see a maximum intensity to when you see a minimum intensity? At what angle does the glass need to be oriented to give minimum glare?
