Discussion Prompt
Explore the SMART App Gallery at https://gallery.smarthealthit.org/ (Links to an external site.).
• Select one app that you think is particularly interesting and describe it.
• How might patients and clinicians benefit from the features the app provides?
• What types of apps do you think would best support the health of priority communities?
How to write a good discussion question:
• Your question should be in essay question format (i.e., an open-ended question, not a true/false or multiple choice question).
• Your question should be a thoughtful one that requires your peers to think more deeply about the readings and module content.
• Your peers should be able to answer your question in approximately 200 words (one substantive paragraph).
• Your question should not ask students to regurgitate facts from the readings.
• Avoid questions such as “The authors say XYZ. What do you think?” and “Do you agree or disagree with the authors?”
• Your questions should be broad enough to open a discussion on a topic, but not so vague and general that it doesn’t get into the specifics of the readings.
Completion/Expectations
• Your assignment should demonstrate university-level critical thinking skills. Marks will be awarded for a logical approach as well as accurate content.
• Use at least one peer-reviewed, academic scholarly journal article that is less than 10 years old to support your work, in addition to the course text.
o You may use reputable government/professional websites for additional support, but they may not take the place of the journal article as a source for your paper.
o cite your sources correctly in APA style. Sources like newspapers, Wikipedia, and lay websites are unacceptable for use as a reference.
o Provide link to the article(s).
• All of the sources used in your posts must be cited correctly in APA style. You must include a correct in-text citation for all information quoted or paraphrased from other sources and place the complete citation of any works used in the References section.
• While discussions are not formal papers, you should still write appropriately and professionally when communicating with your classmates/colleagues.
• This is not a course to write summaries of other persons’ work; this is a course where you must demonstrate the ability to think critically and to apply models and theories to real-world situations.
