Data Commentary Assignment
Overview
In your academic and professional life, especially in Enterprise Risk Management, Applied Analytics, Actuarial Science, and Non-Profit Management, you are asked to discuss data, often displayed in tables, charts or graphs. It is not sufficient to simply provide the non-verbal illustration; you are obliged to interpret it and highlight the key finding and/or consider its implications.
Understanding the Assignment
Using the techniques discussed in class, write a commentary of at least 200 words on a table, chart, graph, or other data set of your choice. The data set you plan to comment on should be from a reputable source (academic, industry, or government) and must be submitted and approved before you begin writing.
Writing the Data Commentary
Your commentary should be no more than a page long and should include the following elements:
• location elements and/or summary statements
• highlighting statements
• discussions of patterns noticed in the data, including noteworthy exceptions
• discussion of implications of the data
• recommendations.
• a reference list in APA style on a separate page, citing the source of the data
• logical organization; accurate grammar; appropriate vocabulary
