Qualitative Study Protocol
The final project for this class is designed to enhance your knowledge of the core concepts of qualitative methods research and to help you to understand the elements that contribute to the design of these studies
Research topic:
Effect of firefighter fatigue on the cognitive abilities and the ways to cope with it.
Use the above topic to design a qualitative research protocol.
PART I – Research Problem
1. Describe the research problem. (1-page length).
2. State the overall objective(s) of your study
3. List five general qualitative research questions that you would be interested in answering through this qualitative research study. For each general question add two sub-questions.
4. Propose a conceptual framework that explains what will be studied. Present the proposed conceptual framework graphically and provide a narrative explaining the key factors in play in the study as well as all the presumed relationships among them.
PART II Interview guideline
1. Elaborate an interview guideline for a semi-structured interview with at least 10 questions. Explain how EACH question is linked to the research questions.
2. Describe your plan to pilot-test the protocol.
PART III Survey questionnaire
1. Elaborate a survey questionnaire with at least 10 content questions (no demographic questions). Explain how EACH question is linked to the research questions.
2. Describe your plan to pilot-test the survey questionnaire.
