What are your thoughts on incorporating family therapy in conjunction with individual therapy and other group therapy formats?

It is important to match the treatment needs of the individual with the most appropriate group therapy. What are the most important factors for counselors to consider when referring a client for group therapy or admitting a client into an established group? Should a client ever be completely excluded from a group therapy modality of treatment? If so, in what circumstance would exclusion be most appropriate?

Additionally, the importance of the family as a support system in the treatment of addictions has been well established.
