Assessment Information
This assignment requires you to submit a portfolio of legal advice based upon the problem scenarios considered in the workshops, as well as a ‘recent development’ piece. Your portfolio should, therefore, contain three pieces in total.
Legal Advice
You must submit two pieces of legal advice as part of a portfolio (500 WORDS for each piece of advice).
This portfolio should focus on this issue which is:
• The legal effects of EU law
These pieces of advice should be formally written in memorandum format. This may include bullet points.
Criteria for Assessment
This coursework will be assessed against the following criteria:
• Identification of legal issues;
• Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding of European Union Law;
• Use of relevant legal authorities;
• Analysis and application;
• Current awareness;
• Writing style and structure.
Recent Development
You must select and submit one recent development article based upon the substantive EU law topics. The relevant topics are:
• Banking and Capital Markets in the EU
• Consumer Protection
EU Criminal Law
• EU Climate Law
• EU Law and Professional Sport
• Protection of Competition in the EU
• Social Policy and Discrimination
• The Free Movement of Workers
This article should conform with accepted standards of academic writing and a bibliography.

This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:
1. Evaluate the role of the Institutions of the European Union and the law-making process;
2. Understand and evaluate the impact of UK membership of the European Union on domestic law;
3. Analyse the limits of European Union law in providing remedies to Member States and individuals;
4. Use a wide range of specialist skills in order to formulate responses to problem scenarios covering areas of law specific to this module;
5. Analyse and evaluate the main substantive EU law freedoms in their social, legal and economic contexts.
