This is a thesis in European law. The thesis should first describe the so-called rule of law mechanism and its legal basis. Subsequently, the rule of law proceedings against the EU member state Hungary for possible violations of the rule of law will be discussed. Among other things, it will explain how the sanctions against Hungary function legally and how Hungary’s veto right is circumvented.
