Assignment Question
Descriptive Statistics Students will put together a multiple-page document showcasing what they learned from chapters 3-5. Only MS Word and Google Doc files will be accepted. All projects should have a title page/title slide. Page 1: Measures of Central Tendency & Variability Students will select one IRS variable from the Project SPSS data file. Students will answer questions 1- 8 in numbered format and indicate the proper units in their response. What is the mode? What is the median? What is the mean? Identify the upper and lower quartiles for your selected variable’s distribution. What is the range? What is the IQR? What is the variance? What is the standard deviation? Page 2: Scratch Work Students will provide TYPED scratch work for each question on page 1. Use the instructions below to complete this task. Identify the number of the question you are solving. Show the original equation used for solving. Show the equation filled in with the data from your selected variable. If no equation was used to solve the problem, students are required to type the steps of their solution. Students are encouraged to use SPSS (measures of central tendency & variability) to verify their work is correct. Page 3: Variable Distribution Students will use SPSS to create a visual representation of their variable’s distribution (HINT: Week 11). Students will provide a 300-word statement that addresses the following questions: How would you explain this image to someone who is unfamiliar with statistics? Explain what is being presented. Explain what it (the data) means. In review of your selected variable’s distribution, what descriptive statistic would be most appropriate for summarizing the data? Explain why this measure is more appropriate than the others. Explain what this measure actually captures. Interpret what the answer for this measure means.
