Literature review structured essay
Assessment task details and instructions
You should produce a robust report that critically evaluates and analyses the evidence base behind a nursing intervention of your choice. To do this you will be expected to identify one area of nursing practice or intervention, and undertake a structured literature review of the evidence base supporting this guidance, using the structured essay format provided. You are expected to develop a clear search strategy and to evaluate the quality of your evidence. You will then discuss the key findings and themes within your literature. Finally you will draw conclusions from your findings and consider its impact in practice.
Your report should include the following:
• Identify a topic and developing a clear focus for your study – identify how you have chosen your topic and provide background information to provide context to your research question.
• Developing a search strategy – demonstrate your search strategy to demonstrate how you have refined your search to, around 8 appropriate papers to support your topic.
• Summarising the evidence – complete the summary of findings table to identify the evidence you have chosen and why it is relevant to your topic.
• Appraising the evidence – You should appraise the quality of your papers, identified using a recognised critical appraisal tool, and justify your choice in text.
• Identifying themes – critically appraise the key findings and themes of your literature which contribute to answering your question.
• Conclude – draw conclusions from your analysis and discuss how this impacts on practice and service users.
