For this project, you will write the first draft of a paragraph that you have already been planning. This step is what many students erroneously think is all there is to writing. They expect to sit down, have some brilliant idea, then write a paragraph and turn it in. That kind of “writing” usually produces an inferior paragraph that receives a poor score.
Here are your goals for this lesson:
Write the first draft of an expository paragraph.
Revise and improve the expository paragraph.
Write a paragraph of at least 150 words, using one of your subtopic ideas from the lesson “Expository Writing” and the outline you wrote in the lesson “Paragraph Structure.” You may go back into those lessons to review your work there or to print out or copy what you wrote.
this is a first draft, so write following your outline as well as you can.
Your paragraph should:
be of appropriate length
address the topic
have a topic sentence with a controlling idea
follow the outline
conclude by restating the topic sentence.
This is the draft outline:
I. Drinking and driving are bad habits.
A. Drinking under the influence will make you have a poor judgement.
B. Lack of coordination and reaction time is one of the consequences of driving drunk.
C. Your vision may be impaired so you may not see clearly.
II. There are consequences when driving under the influence.
A. Drunk driving may cause accidents and death.
B. You may get a DUI ticket and even go to jail if someone dies.

III. Rehabilitation may be helpful for drunk drivers.
