ESSAY – INTRODUCTION TO GROUP WORK
RATIONALE:
This assessment is designed to support students to critically evaluate different types of group work as they pertain to work with persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities. This activity encourages students to consider the strengths and limitations of different group forms and to recognise key theoretical that may underpin each of these group work types. Students are also invited to reflect on issues of power and the role of the social worker within the group work context.
TASK:
Students will refer to Toseland and Rivas CHAPTER 1, ‘Introduction’ (attached book below).
Critically analyse” Socialization group” within the context of working with “at risk” populations or marginalised communities. Consider the strengths and limitations of this type of group work with reference to key theoretical constructs and readings in this unit.
There should be 8 references in this assessment (APA 7th referencing).
