Details of the Assignment Assignment name: Project report Component Number: 1 Assignment weighting: 100% Assignment details: Assignment guidance: Project/Commission Report Complete 4000-word report that explores and analyses the health and social care needs and assets of a community in order to commission a service to meet a specific need. This will be a geographical community such as a small area of Birmingham (e.g. Bartley Green), Remember that you need to gather data on that community, so data and statistics as detailed below need to be freely available or extractable from other data, this will be important when it comes to justifying your analysis of the communities’ needs and assets. So, choose your community carefully.

Structure of report: These are the suggested sections of the report. It is an academic report that requires critical thinking and critical analysis using statistics, data and research from reliable academic sources. Make sure that you use good quality sources to support your report.

1. Introduction — describe the community/population, set the scene. justify why it is a useful community to research and detail some of the areas covered in the report.

2. Account of the community (use graphs, tables, maps etc) This account could include:

• Location (urban/rural) • Population distribution and type (race, age, social class)

• Housing

• Schools, education

• Transport

• Employment • Crime rates

• Leisure facilities

• Services and facilities for specific groups e.g. families and children in the community, elderly, people with mental health issues, specific religious groups. Do not simply go through this list. Some of these suggestions may not be of important in the geographical area that you choose to cover.

3. Views of the community Speak to members of the community e.g. in shops, community centres, health workers, people who run social media sites, the local newspaper. This should be done via email/phone call if not in person (due to COVID-19 restrictions). Then write a summary of the key points.

4. Analysis Analyse health and social care needs and assets of the community. Provide a discussion around the community needs and assets and use research and theory to support your analysis of the needs and assets of this community. You CAN (but don’t have to) use views of the public as anecdotal evidence to support this section but be careful, this needs to be academic, so you need to support these thoughts with data, statistics, theory and research.

5. Commissioning a. Choose one priority need for this community b. Decide on a service or intervention to commission c. Detail how you would commission this and why d. Develop within this section a discussion around economics of the action that you plan to take – how would your actions be funded?
