Research Paper:
The paper must be 6 pages long (including cover page and work-cited page in MLA format).
The paper must be double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font.
The research topic must:
(1) Pertain to a contemporary legal and/or ethical controversy,
(2) Involve at least one business entity (or industry),
(3) Identify & discuss at least 2 legal concepts covered in this course, and
(4) Identify & discuss at least 2 ethical concepts covered in this course.
Purpose of the Research Paper: The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their critical thinking skills, their written communication skills, and their understanding of key concepts covered in this course by encouraging students to apply the knowledge they acquired in this course to a written discussion of a controversy involving a business entity or industry.
Approach to the Research Assignment—Students must:
(1) Set forth a general overview of the relevant controversy.
(2) Set forth a detailed summary of each legal/ethical concept applicable to the controversy.
(3) Explain how the identified legal & ethical concepts apply to the controversy.
(4) Explain how the controversy was resolved by identifying the relevant facts and applying those facts to the legal & ethical concepts identified OR (if the matter has not been resolved and is still pending then) set forth a hypothesis about how the controversy should be resolved based on the student’s interpretation of the facts and their understanding of the applicable legal & ethical concepts.
(5) Utilize primary sources to research the controversy, identify the issues, support the analysis, and report on resolutions.
The Submitted Research Paper:
(1) Is the appropriate length (6 pages).
(2) Is Well-written, well-organized, adhered to appropriate format elements, and was free of
typographical errors and/or grammatical errors.
(3) Identified & thoroughly explained at least 2 legal concepts that were studied in this course.
(4) Appropriately applied at least 2 legal concepts to the controversy reported on.
(5) Identified & satisfactorily explained at least 2 ethical concepts that we studied in this course.
(6) Appropriately applied at least 2 ethical concepts to the controversy reported on.
(7) Main thesis was clearly set forth and well-supported throughout the paper.
(8) Included a noteworthy discussion of exception(s) OR included a noteworthy discussion of a
possible alternative outcome that was based on some pivotal part of the controversy.
(9) Reached an instructive conclusion or hypothesis that demonstrated the student thoroughly understood the legal & ethical concepts identified as they related to the controversy discussed.
(10) Overall executicgoon of all the aforementioned elements combined.
