ASSESSMENT 1
Submission to be made through Turnitin link on Blackboard: A report in MS Word format AND Excel Workbook showing your workings and calculations.
This assessment requires you to work in an individual capacity.
The tasks you are required to undertake are all based on the material that has been covered within Week 1 to Week 4 of this module.
The assessment will include calculation-based activities which require you to use Excel worksheets that you are required to construct. It will also require you to interpret your findings and analyse their significance. In the interpretation of your findings, you will be required to present a report making use of any other research material that you have obtained and the inclusion of any charts and illustrations that you deem appropriate.
The data set supplied in the Excel spreadsheet will show yearly earnings of male and female full-time employees for the year 2019 in the case of two companies in different circumstances and areas.
All your workings must be shown within the spreadsheets that you produce. All external sources must be cited and acknowledged.
TASKS
The tasks identified here must all be completed and presented in a single report completed in MS Word format. When this report is submitted it must be done so in conjunction with the full completed Excel workbook showing all your relevant calculations and workings.
1. Load up the Dataset spreadsheet Excel workbook provided and create additional worksheets in this workbook as needed. As a minimum there must be at least one spreadsheet for each relevant task below. Make sure that each of these sheets are clearly named in line with the Task concerned.
2. In the case of both companies you are required to calculate
(a) the Mean, Median and Mode Annual Salary for Males and for Females (30%)
(b) the Standard Deviation Annual Salary for Males and Females (20%)
(c) the Coefficient of Variation for Male and Female salaries (5%)
3. Construct a Histogram for each company that shows the salaries by gender. Display both Histograms on the same worksheet (5%)
4. By referring to the values you obtained in Question 2 above and the images produced for Question 3 above, comment on what the data reveals about:
– the distribution of salary levels between the two companies
– the distribution of salary between the two genders
Explain the significance of the Coefficient of Variation in these cases. (15%)
5. Access the Office for National Statistics website using this link www.ons.gov.uk . Use this site to search in the Employment and Labour Market section for People at Work.
You can more easily access Gender Pay information specifically by scrolling down the page on the link here.
You need to obtain from here national information for the UK on the Gender Pay Gap between males and females for 2019. Using this information, compare the gender pay gap that exists in the two companies here with the national situation. What does this reveal? What reasons do you think might explain this “gap”? (25%)
