Essay 2: Comparison
Topic: Having now read Parts 1 and 2 of Radium Girls, you will compose an analytical comparison essay that responds to the following: Part 1 is called “Knowledge.” Part 2 is called “Power.” How do developments in the women’s lives show changes in knowledge and power from Part 1 to Part 2?
How do we see these changes in levels of knowledge and power play out in the women’s experiences with the medical field, the legal field, work, and their home lives? Choose at least 3 specific grounds for comparison and explore them through good critical analysis.
Planning your essay: Begin by using the notes on outlining from Module 8. I highly recommend actually creating this outline prior to drafting or as you draft.
Supporting your essay: You will support your analysis using evidence from the book itself. Use summaries, paraphrases, and quotations thoughtfully to provide support or examples for your claims. Please use only this book for the essay, not any other outside sources. If you feel you have need of a particular outside source, email me about it and we’ll discuss its relevance to your work.
Study: The notes in Modules 5, 6, and 8 are essential to composing this essay.
Style and organization: This essay will be written in formal, professional style using clear, purposeful sentences. The essay will avoid the potentially confusing errors gone over in the module notes. It will also be cohesive at the sentence and paragraph level, as well as at the level of full essay organization.
Documentation of sources: Cite source use within the essay using in-text citations in APA style. At the end of the essay, include an APA reference for the source(s).
Formatting: Times New Roman pt. 12, double-spaced, standard margins. No cover/title page.
