Answer one the following two questions:
1-What are the anticipated societal impacts of Peak Oil as sketched in The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream? Do you agree with this pessimistic prognosis?
Students will be graded on their definition of peak oil 4pts, on showing how the availability of cheap oil is essential to our civilization 4pts, on understanding how devastating oil depletion would be in that context 4pts and for their own assessment of the issue 8pts. There’s no right or wrong answer to this last question, only sound and cogent arguments supporting your answer.
Guidelines: (Note: marks will be taken off if basic writing requirements are not met):
#Use your lecture notes, slideshows, and lecture recordings. External sources are allowed, but are not required.
#If you are citing an external source, provide the name of author, title, publisher, publication place and date, and page numbers, as applicable. No bibliography is needed; simply state/reference your source (use either footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations within brackets).
#Answer directly and use simple, clear, precise language.
#Define (all) your concepts and any technical term introduced and used.
#You will not be graded on grammar, spelling and punctuation, but proofread your work.
#Include a cover page stating your name and student number, the course title and number, the name of the professor, and the submission date.
#Submit/upload your exam on Brightspace on November 25 before midnight.
Writing format requirements: the answer should be approximately two to four pages long, double spaced, typed, with 1-inch margins and using 12 pt font. Note: the length requirement is only an estimate of how much writing is needed in order to provide a complete answer; this is not something you will be graded on. It could be longer (but not really shorter)
Late penalty: A late penalty of 1 point (out of 20) per day, including the weekend, will be deducted for lateness.
In the event of a medical emergency or other serious problem, an extension to the assignment may be granted but only if I am contacted prior to the deadline.

A position paper is an essay that presents an arguable opinion about any topic or current issue.

2-State and support your opinion. 4pts
3-Introduce stated and possible objections to your opinion. 4pts
4-Support and acknowledge the opposing points. 4pts
5-Explain why you think your position is still the best one, despite the strength of counter-arguments. 4pts
