Down Syndrome
Objective: To understand a disability and the adaptation strategies utilized for individuals with the disability.
Step 1: Select a disability to research. Describe the disability using at least two print sources. Use reliable sources and APA citations. If you have questions about determining if a source is reliable or writing citations in APA format, please review the materials below. As always, you can also contact me with your questions.
Step 2: Research the adaptation strategies and/or assistive technologies utilized related to the disability. Consider residential, vocational, educational, AND social domains.
Step 3: Interview either a professional or consumer who uses one or more of these adaptation strategies/assistive technologies. If interviewing a consumer, please be aware of confidentiality. Change the person’s name to hide their identity.
Step 4: Write a 5-10 page paper on your research. Follow the guidelines in the syllabus for written assignments. Your reference page must be included but should NOT be counted as one of the required 5-10 pages. Furthermore, include these components:
Introduction to your topic
Body (report on your research from steps 1,2, and 3 listed above)
Your reflection on what you learned
Conclusion
Reference page
Use in-text, APA style citations
