Personal Reflection Assignment – Maximum – 2 pages typed 1.5 spaced 1. Statement of interest (3 marks)
● Why are you interested in this course? (answer based on the course description and course objectives) ● What is your level of background knowledge related to aging? Just say a few concepts learned in two courses (KINE 1020 and 4010) about physiological impacts of aging and impacts of physical inactivity on those. (PUT IT IN BETTER WORDING) 2. Personal Course Goal (3 marks) ●
What do you hope to achieve from this course? Mention that my mom and dad are getting old and I hope to achieve a better understanding of physiological aspects of aging so I could design a great physical activity program to help them … ● Set one goal to achieve during this course: completely understand the physiological changes and psychosocial factors associated with aging. So I could help others even a little bit. 3. Plan for Goal Achievement (3 marks) ● How do you plan to achieve this goal? ● How can the prof help you achieve this goal? 4. Spelling/ grammar (1 marks)
Course description: This course will expand on students’ knowledge of ‘normal’ aging processes through a detailed description of the impact of aging on various human physiological systems. This foundation will allow students to better understand the various ways that physical activity participation can mitigate the potential negative impact of aging on functionality while concurrently inducing positive health outcomes that prevent chronic diseases and enhance overall health-related quality of life.
Course Objectives: 1. Demonstrate clear understanding of the physiological (cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal, morphological, and endocrine) changes that take place with ‘normal’ aging 2. Demonstrate the ability to think critically about the psychosocial factors associated with aging and their impact on physical activity participation and overall health-related quality of life. This includes effective goal setting, barrier recognition and the generation of creative strategies to eliminate them. 3. Possess the fundamental knowledge to design safe and effective physical activity/exercise programs for apparently healthy older adults while being aware of potential comorbidities that may impact physical activity participation.
4. Demonstrate analytical approaches to current and theoretical community-based physical activity programs for older adults through evaluation of an existing program and the creation of a hypothetical program that could be delivered to your community.
5. Discuss knowledge translation strategies for the effective communication and implementation of community-based physical activity programming.
