After reading and viewing the information on the course. Take a moment and reflect on the following questions.
1. This discussion is to look at, analyze and draw conclusion as a professional nurse looks at the data available to our patients. Some of you may be familiar with Value Based Purchasing..or ‘pay for performance’. Care such as the quality bundles for ventilator patients or hospital acquired infections fall under this work and this get reported publically. Also one the Aims is the patient experience. There are many questions about how the patient perceives their experience.

1, Enter the zip code you are interested in and then look around at the data you can find.
2. Select 3 hospitals to ‘compare’. This will take you to a results page. There will be a series of tabs at the top, with listings such as ‘Survey of Patient Experience” or “Timely & Effective Care”. Pursue the data.
3. Using the specific data, write up in 1-2 paragraphs what were the most surprising information you found and why. Include the specific data and end with how you think patients might interpret this.
This is alot of information so focus on one area. You may include any information from within this week or other weeks.
Part 2: After you have reviewed this information and made your interpretation. Please discuss how you as a nurse leader could/would use this information? Compose a 500 word or less response. Use references please.
Grading is as follows:
45 pts (maximum) Completion of Hospital Compare exercise. Able to find the information, Report it accurately. Has identified 1-2 surprises from this exercise.
45 pts (maximum) Discussion posting that is thoughtful and demonstrates evidence of understanding of the impact of public reporting can have (either positive or negative) on patient care. Uses references well.
