Primarily science education
The task develops a: • Resource — a learning sequence related to a specific topic that would actively and appropriately support student learning in primary science; and • Rationale — a written component that critically examines, in light of relevant literature and experiences, the learning sequence you created.
Assessment Task 1: The first assessment task provides you with an opportunity to focus on developing a learning sequence to support student learning in science (2 learning experiences). This learning sequence is designed around a specific conceptual idea that is age appropriate for a chosen year level and draws upon your knowledge of science curriculum, assessment and reporting. Assessment will be embedded within the learning sequence. A rationale for the learning sequence will also be developed.
Assessment Task 2: The second assessment task then requires each pair to situate their learning sequence within a larger integrated unit which makes links to other curriculum areas and the cross-curriculum capability of critical and creative thinking.
This unit will also provide links with further opportunities to enhance science learning beyond the classroom and assessment will be embedded within this learning sequence. A short rationale will be provided along with a reflective critique of the planning experience.
Assessment Task 1: Developing a learning sequence in science (2000 words equivalent per student, 50% of overall unit assessment)
Details of task: You are required you to apply the knowledge you have gained about learning and teaching primary science from the experiences undertaken in the unit workshops and also bring to this work the insights you have gained from further reading.
Developing and documenting the resource (Group assessment)
For this component, you need to create a learning sequence that will support and enhance student learning of science of a particular science concept at a particular level of the primary school (your choice). Select a year level and determine a conceptual idea. Curriculum documents will be used to inform your decisions. use the Victorian Curriculum to support your planning.
