Guidelines and structure for your 2500-word assessment
Part a -reflective part of report
a) Using a reflective framework, critically analyse management approach of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Conduct your analysis through the lens of the critical functions of a manager acknowledging relevant theories of management that can be applied to enhance management capacity and improve management effectiveness. Please support your analysis with examples where applicable (2,000 words)
1. Use a reflective framework and reference it e.g. “ use Kolb (1984) experiential learning model to reflect on my skills and potential as a manager”.
2. Breakdown the reflective stages into sub sections and address each section robustly, back each point you give on management skills/theory with at least one reference. Do reflect on your point by explaining analytically to demonstrate your understanding of the point/issue e.g. poor communication.
3. Make sure you give an overview on what management is and the types / approaches to management/ do not forget to consider the reflective piece in the light of several theories/concepts/models we covered in class e.g., what is management, functions of management, leadership, performance management, quality management, team building, enterprise, innovation, etc.)
4. Reflect on the way management is conducted in the organisation by focusing on a manager or the way management done by staff to achieve business objectives using some of the key objectives.
5. This is an opportunity to tell the reader about your understanding of management and how it can be improved upon.
6. Write in the first person.
7. Remember, it is your reflection, make it personal.
8. Have a reference section at the end of part b.
Part b -reflective part of report
b) Write an entrepreneurial management report summary that proffers solutions to the challenges faced in a health and social care organisation (500 words)
You can structure part b in this way below:
1. Tell the reader what you are going to do (you can leave this until you have finished to be correct in your structure/introduction).
2. Identify a problem and analyse it using any problem-solving tool e.g., Fishbone/Cause and Effect, Brain storming/Mind mapping, etc.
3. Once you have analysed the problem using any tool of your choice tell the reader which causes you are going to address -Decision making (as you may not be able to solve all the causes of that problem in 500 words), so choose one that you think is very critical to solving the effect/problem.
4. Now find another tool to assist you with providing a solution, we have covered so many in class such as Stages of Innovation, PDSA, Performance Management Cycle, Balanced Score card, etc. Use one that solves the problem. If it solves the problem, we will accept it as a problem-solving tool. So, make sure you demonstrate the tools efficacy by demonstrating and explaining how have applied it to solving the problem.
Part a and b must be submitted as one file through Turnitin.
