For your term research paper, you will need to select a well-defined question, conduct library research, and present an analysis of your research. While the topic is relatively open, it must a) address the impact of global systems at a local level, and b) be anthropological in nature. The most straightforward way to approach this would be to consider a region or population of interest and one specific global issue that is impacting that region or population. For example, some topics to consider might be:
How atoll dwellers in the Pacific are dealing with rising sea levels
Pollution in a specific area of the Chinese countryside
How large manufacturing plants have affected Mexican workers
Kurdish resistance in Turkey
The relationships between San hunter-gatherers in the Kalahari and the state
This is not at all an exhaustive list.
ou should be able to phrase your topic in the form of a question that is answerable through library research. It is fine if the literature is not there and you need to change course – that is normal for researchers at every level. If you want to write about something that you are not sure fits, please talk to me.
Your analysis should draw on at least five different social science references that were not assigned as reading in this course. However, if materials we read for class are a good match for your paper, you may of course cite those as well.
Your paper should be approximately 2500-3000 words long (10-12 pages double spaced) and it should be in APA format (see here for more information: https://apastyle.apa.org/). It is due on May 2.
