Big Data in Organisations
The following learning outcomes will be assessed:
1. Demonstrate critical appreciation of the principles and practical applications of Big Data and Big Data sets in the business / organisational context.
2. Critically analyse the practical challenges and opportunities afforded by Big Data to organisations and / or to specific subject domains
3. Undertake research into the strategic and operational use of Big Data in organisations taking into account the nature of Big Data, the validity of Big Data, authentication, anonymity, visualisation.
4. Analyse and evaluate the professional and ethical requirements of Big Data in an organisational or subject specialist domain.
Your Task
Your task is to write a 3000 (+/- 10%) word report drawing on the work you have done on the activities previously, the presentation you created and the reading and research you have carried out for your portfolio.
1. Your report will be going into detail about a business or organisation and its use of big data.
2. The report will reflect the discussions, research and evaluations that you have undertaken into your choice of organisation.
3. The report will provide detail on the principles and practical applications of the big data or big data sets within the business.
4. The report must also discuss the challenges of big data including understanding the validity of the data.
5. The report must also evaluate the professional and ethical requirements of the big data within that given business or organisation.
Information
The world of big data is a wide and complex one. For this report, you are required to further develop the subject / topic from your presentation and portfolio and discuss in more detail the themes & topics explored.
You should exercise to demonstrate your ability to explore and analyse big data within the context of a specific organisation. This report required you to provide a critical evaluation of themes for big data within the organisation.
The report which should provide a commentary and evaluation of your chosen business/organisation and its use of big data. You should draw on the exercises and activities that you have undertaken (including the presentation and Portfolio) discussing the rationale for the subjects that you have chosen, why they are important (please refer to the literature to support your argument), what the principles/ challenges and ethical requirements.

Your introduction should include a summary of the main points that you will discuss in your report. Your report should outline the business/organisation you have chosen, the rationale and the main themes you have identified. Your introduction should be about 250 words in length.

The purpose of this section is to set your report in the context of a business or organisation. You should consider how the organisation is utilizing big data and the principles and practical applications within the context of their organisation. You should reference the type of data and the techniques used to maximise its value. This section should be approximately 650 words.
3. Challenges and Opportunities
In this section you should critically analyse the challenges faced by the organisation within the use of big data. How have those challenges impacted the use of the data and also its potential effectiveness? What strategies have the organisation utilised to overcome these challenges? This section should be approximately 650 words.
4. Strategic and Operational Use of Big Data
In this section you should give commentary on the strategic and operational use of big data within the given organisation. You should also reference the very nature of big data giving insight into the validity of the data and its usability. This section should be approximately 650 words.
5. Professional and Ethical Requirements
In this section you should discuss any legislative, ethical and/or professional issues that have impacted the business or organisation. This section should be approximately 650 words.
6. Conclusion
In this section you should summarise your findings and consider what opportunities there are for future research. This section should be approximately 250 words.
