Imagine you have been asked to create a culturally competent newsletter directed toward a target audience that addresses several common health conditions in your community.

First, choose a specific population within your community that you would like to target with your newsletter. This could be a minority group, age group (seniors, parents with children, teenagers, etc.), or other defined population.

Next, research and identify at least three health conditions that impact the population you identified. For each health condition you chose, include:

A simple description of the condition that the general population would be able to understand. Be sure to define complicated words and phrases as appropriate.
Statistics about the condition in your chosen population that help your target population recognize the health condition’s impact on them.
Activities that the population could easily participate in that would prevent or improve the condition.
Be sure to include culturally competent pictures of people who have similar characteristics to the population you chose. As you create your newsletter, keep in mind what you have learned about culturally competent health communication, adult health education, and health literacy.
