The purpose, expectations and requirements of the assignment:
This summative coursework consists of one essay question. It is designed to assess your
• understanding of a number of the principal issues in cognitive and biological psychology;
• Avaluate theoretical and empirical research;
• Outline and discuss the relationships between biological and cognitive explanations of behaviour;
•Communication of complex debates to a lay audience.
Write an essay consisting of the following three parts:
Part 1:
To understand cognition, we need to understand the brain. (1000 words, 40%)
Part 2:
To understand cognition, we do not need to understand the brain. (1000 words, 40%)
Part 3:
Take ONE of the above positions (probably the one you prefer) and summarise it in a way my five-year old daughter could understand. (250 words, 20%)
