However, excessive motivation, particularly when fueled by materialistic values and the pursuit of extrinsic rewards, can lead to detrimental outcomes (Kasser, 2019). Reflecting on my personal experience, I recall a situation where my relentless drive to excel in a work project pushed me beyond my physical and mental limits, resulting in burnout and negative emotions.
In the pursuit of achieving exceptional results, I dedicated extensive hours to the project, often at the expense of my well-being and work-life balance (Ryan & Deci, 2019). This persistent motivation to succeed, coupled with the pressure to meet high standards, caused heightened stress and anxiety, ultimately impacting my performance and mental health.
